Simon Fenn - Repiano Cornet

Simon started playing cornet at middle school after failed attempts at violin and cello.  He loved the sound of brass and soon joined all the bands/orchestras going.

Simon, like most cornet players started, on 3rd cornet but soon found himself going up the line and eventually to principal cornet in the Reepham band. He can boast playing in every seat in the cornet section plus flugel and even once on solo horn. When Simon was once featured on BBC Radio Suffolk, he was described as Suffolk’s answer to Philip McCann!  He has played with most bands in east anglia and has been very privileged to play under the baton of Major Peter Parkes, Roy Newsome and even Malcom Arnold to name a few.

Simon’s passion for playing is as strong as ever, very much enjoying his current role in the band. His one unfulfilled wish is to play in the Albert Hall, so come on band!

Keith Moye - Cornet

Having started his musical journey in The Salvation Army at Stowmarket, Keith progressed  from the Junior to Senior Band and was Bandmaster for three years.

He has a BA (Hons) Music degree from Colchester Institute and has helped various orchestras and brass bands across the region.

Following joining the Coop Band in 2019, he has held the role of Chairman since 2021, guiding us through covid but now thriving as a band.

Outside of banding, Keith is a big sports fan and enjoys watching cricket at Essex and visiting Portman Road to see the mighty Ipswich Town! His favourite place to holiday is the North Norfolk coast or the Yorkshire Dales for a long walk in peace!

Keith is married to Amy and has two adorable girls called Rosa who is 9 and Eliza who is 5.

Steve Anstead - Cornet

Steve Anstead picked up the cornet at age seven, taught by his grandad at Wickford Salvation Army – and he’s been making noise ever since!

A proud member of the band since 2024, Steve balances brass playing with life alongside wife Karen, two grown-up kids, three dogs, two cats, and a slightly worrying fondness for Southend United FC.

When he’s not hitting the high notes, you’ll find him hitting the road on his motorbike, probably humming a march tune into his helmet.

Warm-hearted, full of banter, and always ready with a cheeky grin, Steve brings music – and mischief – wherever he goes.

Lawrence Killian - Cornet

Hailing from Haworth, West Yorkshire, Lawrence began playing cornet with the Haworth Band, advancing through the ranks to become principal at 16. During this time, he studied trumpet with Arthur Butterworth and joined the National Youth Orchestra in 1976.

Lawrence earned a first-class degree in composition, studying under George Odam and John McCabe in Bath. In 1980, he became an Associate of the Royal College of Music (ARCM), studying with David Mason and John Wallace from the Philharmonia Orchestra. He spent a year performing trumpet at a professional level at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies.

Since graduating, Lawrence has conducted over two hundred concerts semi-professionally with many orchestras across the north of England. His music publications include an extensive range of arrangements and compositions for orchestra, concert band, and brass ensemble.

After a successful career as a headteacher and head of education, Lawrence and his wife Jane moved from Halifax to Suffolk in 2021. Since then, Lawrence has continued to develop his work as a conductor, becoming MD of the Ipswich Hospital Band and guest conducting the Suffolk Sinfonia. He is enjoying an energetic return to brass banding as a member of our cornet section.
