About the band
The East of England Co-op Band is a brass band based in Ipswich, Suffolk, with a rich musical heritage that dates back over a century.
Originally founded in 1982 as Connells Sounding Brass, it has long been associated with the cooperative movement in the East of England, serving as both a community music group and a competitive brass band.
Throughout its history, the band has undergone several name changes reflecting changes in sponsorship and local cooperative mergers, eventually becoming known as the East of England Co-op Band. Despite these changes, its mission has remained consistent: to promote brass band music, support community events, and compete at regional and national levels.
The band has a strong tradition in competition, participating in events across the UK and achieving success in various brass band sections over the decades. It has also played an important cultural role in the East Anglia region, performing at civic events, charity concerts, and seasonal celebrations.
Today, the East of England Co-op Band continues to be a vibrant part of the local arts scene, bringing together musicians of all ages and backgrounds, and maintaining its proud legacy in British brass banding.
